Bursaries for 20,000 who passed Grade 5 Scholarship exam

Over 48,000 students passed the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam, according to Education Ministry statistics. Of them about 20,000 will receive bursaries.

The Grade 5 Scholarship Examination was held on December 18, 2022. 329,668 sat for the examination with 48,257 passing.

Examinations Commissioner General Amith Jayasundara said that this group is eligible to apply for other schools and get bursaries this year. He said that 198 is the highest mark obtained in the Scholarship Examination this year. Students who require a re-scrutiny of results can put forward their appeals until February 28, 2023.

10,585 children from Western Province, 5,017 from Central Province, 6,812 from Southern Province, 2,749 from Northern Province, 3,479 from Eastern Province, 6,601 from North-Western Province, and 3,887 from Uva Province passed the scholarship examination.

3,694 children from Colombo, 4,486 from Gampaha, 2,405 from Kalutara, 2,597 from Kandy, 1,085 from Matale, 1,335 from Nuwara Eliya, 2,415 from Galle, 2,157 from Matara, 2,240 from Hambantota, 1,581 from Jaffna, 263 from Kilinochchi, 161 from Mannar, 444 from Vavuniya, 300 from Mullaitivu, 1,117 from Batticaloa, 1,616 from Ampara, 746 from Trincomalee, 5,041 from Kurunegala, 1,560 from Puttalam, 2,679 from Anuradhapura. 1,278 from Polonnaruwa, 2,336 from Badulla, 1,551 from Monaragala, 3,216 from Ratnapura, and 1,954 from Kegalle have been successful in the scholarship examination at district level.

The District Level cut-off marks of the Scholarship Examination for both Sinhala and Tamil medium schools have also been released. The cut-off marks for this year’s scholarship exam in Colombo, Kandy, Matale, Gampaha, Kalutara, Matara Districts are 153 in Sinhala medium and 144 in Tamil medium. -NA
