Sangeetha Megham- an evening of Tamil Cine music directed by Soundarie David Rodrigo, and featuring local talent, was held for the first time at the Elphinston Theatre in June last year. This concert was well received and was a great success with raving reviews in the media. Extracts of the show are now out to the public via YouTube, has been viewed by International audiences with great reviews and feedback.

By popular demand and based on the fact that many missed the first show, a repeat show with a few changes and additions ‘Sangeetha Megham 2.0’ directed by Soundarie David Rodrigo is going to be staged as a Special Pongal Edition, on the 15th of January 2023 at the Bishops College Auditorium in Colombo.

The band ‘Maya’ comprising of Visharada Ratnam Ratnadurai, Pradeep Rodrigo, Shane John, Dhanuksha Seneviratne, Chandru Rajasooriyar and Soundarie David Rodrigo – all experienced and talented musicians will provide the required backing to the great line up of singers, featuring the star from “The Voice” – young Tamil singer Prakash K and Tanuja Joseph, all the way from Melbourne, Australia- along with singers Megan Shatrughan, Amaan Rifai, and Abinesh Ravichandran.

Speaking about this Special Pongal Edition, Soundarie said ‘The presenters of this unique Tamil Musical Show – Sangeetha Megham 2.0–given the success of the first show, not just in terms of how it was received but also the process of putting together these challenging songs of great Tamil Cine Music Composers – was so great, and working towards this and mastering the nuances of these great melodies was truly an experience to cherish. We felt there were more Tamil Cine Music lovers out there who missed the show, and those who wanted to watch it all over again. So this one is specially for all of them. Come continue Pongal celebrations with this special concert’. ‘A lot of hard work has been put in for the show, and we have no doubt the audience will enjoy the show’ she added.

The concert is sponsored by Tokyo Cement, PROYouth, BBK Partnership, with support from Unique Sounds, Soul Sounds Academy and Creative Hue. Media sponsors are Shakthi TV and Shakthi FM.

Some soul-stirring hits from the 80s and 90s of the composers Ilaiyaraja and A.R. Rahman as well as some new hits of the other music directors of the Tamil cine industry are set to be performed. Expect some unique arrangements of music and medleys put together to bring back memories.

Local music lovers will be thrilled to watch Prakash K of “Voice” fame belting out some popular hits on stage as part of the line-up of singers. The show will also feature Tanuja Joseph Varghese, Megan Dhakshini Shatrughan, Abinesh Ravichandran, and Amaan Rifai. Another feature unique to this concert would be the Soul Sounds Tamil Ensemble, whose voices are bound to mesmerize.
