Junior Nationals Open and Girls Chess Championships 2022

Rashmitha and Esandi win titles Pesandu Rashmitha Fernando and Esandi Newansa won the Junior Nationals Open and Girls Chess Championship titles respectively, which took place at Berrewaerts Royal Primary College in Ampitiya last week.

Following Rashmitha in the Open category, AFM B. Janukshan was placed second while Geenuka Kavinu Gunaweera finished at third. In the Girls’ category WCM Sayuni Gihansa Jayaweera and AFM Dulinma Hemalni Rathnayaka finished at second and third respectively behind Esandi.

The event consisted Open and Girls’ categories and the number of rounds of each event were eight. The time control for the event was a standard of 90 minutes with an increment of 30 seconds per move. Any player below 20 was eligible for the event. The top three place winners received cash prizes. Total of 450 players were compete in both event.
