‘Nimi’, a cinematic venture by two young filmmakers Isuru Weerasinghemudali and Chathu Perera is now being screened in cinemas. Famed for his earlier directions ‘Colour’ and ‘PaniMakuluwo’, Isuru is a lyricist and screenplay writer.
The love story revolves around a young male teacher who gets his first appointment in a rural village.
Gayan takes up teaching as his profession and he gets his first appointment at a school in a remote village far away from Colombo. As he continues with his job, Gayan’s mother insists him to get married and tried to arrange a bride for him.
In order to please his mother Gayan agrees to see a girl arranged by his mother and returns home during a weekend. The bus journey from his school to home changes him completely as he meets with a young girl and with whom he starts a long conversation.
With the exciting experience he had in the bus back in his mind, Gayan gets ready to visit the girl arranged by his mother. When he sees the arranged bride to be, Gayan gets a shock. Who could be this girl? And what will be Gayan’s future?
‘Nimi’ stars Rasipaba Sandeepani, Kavinga Perera, Roshan Ranawana, Gayathri Dias, Lalith Jayasinghe, Sanjeewa Wickramasinghe, Adhisha Herath, Shehara Thilakarathne, Hasitha Sanjaya, Kingsley Loos, Gangu Roshana, Malithi Nanayakkara, Nuradha Thejan, and Mahesh Nanayakkara.
Behind the screen; Gayan Shanaka Muhandiram handles cinematography, Chalith Manuranga is the assistant director, Thanushka Kahandawela is in charge of editing, colour mixing, sound mixing, and sound editing, Asiri Chathuranga and Malsha Nanayakkara handle makeup department, Chameera Jaliya Perera is the art direction, Dilum Ranganath is the production manager and Madhuranga Gamage and Nelka Thilini directed the musical score. The film was shot in and around Kandy, Digana, Medamahanuwara, Riverston and certain locations in Colombo.
