Rehan Soysa, a member of the St. Peter’s College Under-15 cricket team, in his bid to get selected for his school’s first XI has already performed well in the Division II Tournament of his age category in both batting and bowling.

In the process of proving his potential, up to the semi-finals Rehan had scored 291 runs and picked up 17 wickets. He was the second best performer for his team. Inspired by his father, who is also a keen cricket enthusiast, Rehan had starred in many matches portraying him as a team player. In one such winning match against Thurstan College, where St. Peter’s recorded a first innings win, Rehan ran through the batting order collecting a five-for.

In another game against S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia, the off-spinner picked up three wickets and hit an excellent 81. He had been consistently performing, hitting another 83 against Zahira, in a match-winning performance. Other notable contributions that followed were claiming 4 for 19 and hitting an unbeaten 42 against Bandaranayake Central Veyangoda, which was followed by another haul of 4 for 26 and an unbeaten 50 against Prince of Wales, Moratuwa.

The 14-year-old all-rounder believes there is no short cut in representing his school at the top level and is going through the hard grind of getting selected for his school team.
