The Nalanda College cricket team which won the 92nd Battle of the Maroons after a lapse of 69 years, was felicitated at a grand ceremony at Water’s Edge, Battaramulla yesterday. Former Sri Lanka captain Roshan Mahanama was the chief guest.

The event was organised by the Nalanda Old Boys Association, Nalanda Junior Old Boys Association, Old Nalandians Sports Club and Nalanda Cricket (Past Cricketers Association of Nalanda).

It was held under the patronage of Nalanda College Principal Thilak Wattuhewa while five surviving members of the Nalanda team which won the match in 1953 were guests of honour.

Nalanda, captained by Dineth Samaraweera, defeated arch rivals Ananda College by nine wickets at SSC in their 92nd annual ‘big match’.

Distinguished past cricketers of Nalanda College graced the occasion where the master-in-charge, Prefect of Games and coaches were also feted.
