Heavy rainfall to be expected in many provinces: Met. Department

Due to a low level atmospheric disturbance, heavy rainfall is expected in most parts of the island, the Meteorology Department forecasts.

Met Department’s Duty Meteorologist  said heavy showers or thundershowers can occur at any time of the day particularly in the Central, Uva, Northern, North Central, Eastern and Sabaragamuwa provinces.

The public have been urged to take adequate precautions severe thunderstorms and heavy rain.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere, particularly in the evening or night time.

According to an official from the Disaster Management Centre, heavy rains and strong winds have have caused minor damages to property in the  Central Province.

Meanwhile more than 100 people residing in the Southern and Eastern provinces are facing hardships, due to bad weather over the past few days.
