Driven by technology and globalization, and exacerbated by the knock-on effects of the post covid 19 world, the legal industry is undergoing a pivotal shift.  Amidst this drastically changing landscape, accompanied by new practice models in the New Normal, it is critical that the lawyers of today are ready to rise to the unique challenges they are bound to face, and be armed with the knowledge and understanding to plan and implement legal strategies and practices that respond to the accelerated changes in law brought on by the pandemic.

As the legal sector transforms, with lawyers required to have a new set of knowledge and skills in order to stay ahead of the curve, the Bristol Institute of Business Management, launched the LLM Masters in Commercial Law — a program that is a first-of-its-kind, and is uniquely positioned to immerse legal professionals in current fast-paced and volatile global context of business.

Designed by the University of the West of England, Bristol (UWE Bristol), the program includes a broad, contextual and critical understanding of the area of commercial law with modules, such as International Contracts, International Banking and Finance Law, International Intellectual Property, and International Commercial Disputes.

It further encompasses the operation of judicial, legislative and administrative action in relevant domestic, and international contexts, giving students hands-on experience in skills such as cross-border transactions and transnational law.

A range of innovative theoretical and practical teaching methods are used, from large group discussions, group work to collaborative projects and role plays to debates, thereby enabling students to develop vital intellectual, transferable, interpersonal and practical skills to enhance abilities in the areas of negotiation and presentation and demonstrate their ability to formulate arguments and seek solutions to contemporary legal challenges.

In addition, students will gain broader soft skills in the areas of management, leadership, technology, communication, and more. These skills will directly impact graduates’ potential in the sector, as recruiters increasingly look for well-rounded lawyers.

These initiatives demonstrate’s Bristol’s commitment to investing in efforts to reimagine and improve the experience of their students to be relevant, as the Institute continues to develop and introduce new innovative learning curriculums to meet with the evolving needs of respective professions.

The COO of Bristol Institute, Mr.Dilshad Jiffry explained“, our approach to legal education is distinctly innovative, global and defined by the needs of future legal professionals who seek to explore law’s intersection with technology and other dynamic disciplines.

As such, the LLM in Commercial Law is a specialist pathway for in-depth study in law relating to the current business scenarios.

It is a rigorous legal training that combines academic excellence with advanced practical skills for real-world application and is designed to ensure participants become fully fledged, specialized business lawyers.

In this way, they graduate as competitive candidates for any legal position in an international context, whether in big law firms, legal boutiques, institutions, corporations, consultancy firms, startups, alternative legal service providers or new-tech companies.

Having notched a high number of student recruitments for the initial intake of this degree, Bristol Institute will once again be launching their next intake for this program this month in Aug 2021.
