The Induction Ceremony of the 84th President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, Prof. Srianthie Deraniyagala, was held on the 30th of June 2021 via Zoom, with a limited physical participation of officials at the Adamantane House.

The Chief Guest of the evening was Professor L. M. V. Tillekeratne from the University of Toledo, who joined via the virtual platform.

The distinguished gathering was welcomed by Professor Sagarika Ekanayake, the outgoing President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon. The incoming President was introduced by Professor Priyani Paranagama, followed by the ceremonial induction of the 84th President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon. Professor Srianthie Deraniyagala  retired from the University of Colombo in April 2021 after a service of 42 years.

She has contributed immensely to the upliftment of the programmes and activities conducted by the College of Chemical Sciences and the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon for over 30 years.

The newly inducted President provided insight on her future aims and objectives as she along with the Council for the year 2021/22, commits to guide the Institute through the year under a pivotal theme of “Shaping Minds to Break Through Frontiers in Chemical Research”. We wish her all the very best in her future endeavors as the 84th President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon!
