The ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has called for the resignation of Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila over his failure to prevent  yesterday’s fuel price increase.

In a statement issued last night, SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said the subject minister must take complete responsibility for pushing the people into more difficulties with a fuel price hike amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and failing to take necessary decisions to prevent such increase.

He said that as the subject minister he was directly responsible for this situation and should take responsibility and resign from his post.

Mr Gammanpila was not available for comment last night.
