Two Indian construction workers were assaulted by a member of the “Owners Association” over the delays in completing the project, the Police said.

Chief Inspector Upul Samarasinghe, Officer in Charge of the Slave Island Police, said according to the complaint lodged by the two workers, the incident had occurred on Monday at the construction site.

One employee had obtained treatment from the National Hospital.

The Chief Inspector said the assailant and officials of the condominium company were summoned to the station for an inquiry.

“We wanted to take the matter to courts but the parties agreed to amicably settle the dispute after they came to an understanding on the delays,” he said.

A spokesman for the condominium company confirmed the incident and said they were discussing with the construction company whether the person involved in the incident and the “Owners Association”, which comprise those who have purchased apartments in the iconic property should be kept away from the site.

The Sunday Times learns that the Indian High Commission has been informed about the incident and it brought the matter to the notice of the Foreign Ministry, which, in turn, had informed the Inspector General of Police.
