At a time when the money-spinning tuition business plays a big role in our education system, comes this heartening story of a retired oriental dance teacher still giving his best for the love of teaching students.

Now 65 years old, Senaka Galahitiyawa joined Bandaranaike College in Uva Paranagama Badulla  in 1989. He retired in 2015. But since the vacancy for a dance instructor had not been filled he continues to teach the students.

Recalling his love for dancing he said during his schooling days students didn’t even have proper uniforms. He is ever grateful to his dancing gurus such as T. B. M. Bambarapana and Jayaneris Jothiratne.

“Unfortunately today even this aesthetic discipline has become an avenue to make money.”

Ïn 1989 I joined Bandaranaike College as dancing instructor. We appeared in most of the district dancing competitions and won awards. When I retired there was an appeal by the school authorities and parents to continue my work,” he said.
