A tin-fish factory situated in Peliyagoda had allegedly disposed off a large stock of canned fish tins in the Urban Council dump yard illegally, a meeting of the council was told.

The meeting was presided by Council Chairman K D Ananda Pushpakumara.

During the sessions one of the members representing SLPP, Kavinda Ranatunga, said that he and another member found out that over 18,000 canned fish tins were found in two containers situated in a 20-feet deep pit in the Peliyagoda Urban Council garbage yard.

He complained that four PHIs of the Peliyagoda UC had allowed the dump of canned fish tins in the pit, which resulted in a loss of Rs 80,000 to the council.

He said that the tins which were disposed had expiry dates changed to May 8, 2022, however the actual expiry date on cans were November 2, 2020.

The UC Chairman said that if the incident is proven to be correct, disciplinary action would be taken against the PHIs, and action would be taken against the factory for defying UC orders.
