COVID Task Force to assess Colombo situation

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 will meet tomorrow to review the Colombo City COVID situation and decide which areas could be opened for business activities, a spokesperson for the President’s Office said last night.

“Opening isolated areas in Colombo will be the main topic of discussion with the health authorities giving their opinion on controlling the situation in case of an escalation,” he said.

This week 14 deaths were reported from the city and a majority of the total of 74 deaths are from Colombo. Yesterday, the Peliyagoda fish market cluster — with which Colombo cases are associated — reported 257 cases, increasing the total number to 16,000 from both the Peliyagoda and Minuwangoda clusters. At present 15 police areas are isolated .

Of Friday’s total number of 439 cases, 160 were from the Colombo district and a majority from Colombo city.
