School book distribution to be regularised through a new database: Education Ministry

The Education Ministry will set up a database to facilitate the methodical distribution of books, a senior ministry official said.

As some students use the textbooks of the previous batch, the database will be first used to identify the books required by each student batch. The official said some schools experience transport issues and therefore do not collect new books. Instead the students use the books of the previous batch.

He said after the books were dispatched , the school principals using the database could confirm that the books had been received.

“The database will be accessible to the Ministry secretary and all other education officials, so everyone at the Ministry will be updated on the status of the new books,” the official said.

He said the idea for the database came about after the Ministry received many complaints about book distribution not being regularised. (C )
