Nuwara Eliya District Secretary wants more security for Grama Nilacharis

Nuwara Eliya District Secretary Rohana Pushpakumara has called for additional security for Grama Niladhari officers involved in paying the Rs 5,000 allowance.
Mr Pushpakumara told a meeting that estate sector leaders were among those threatening the Grama Niladharis. They have been demanding that the lists of those entitled for the Rs 5,000 be adjusted according to the names given by them.
He said some of the officers had to keep away from their offices due to threats while some of them had received death threats too.
The Grama Niladharis on Thursday had met Mr Pushpakumara and explained the difficulties they faced.
He said there were 18 different circulars which the officials were supposed to follow and they cannot ignore them.
