A youth was electrocuted while attending to a vehicle at a service station in Maligawatte, Colombo on Tuesday, a coroner’s court inquiry was told.

The victim Maradan Yogaraja (27) was washing a car with an electric high pressure water gun, when the tragedy happened.

Service station mechanic S Somaraja told the coroner that he heard someone shouting near the servicing area. He said he saw a car on a hoist and Yogaraja lying underneath with the high pressure water gun on top of him.

The witness said he immediately switched off the main switch and rushed his friend to the National Hospital. He died at the hospital’s Emergency Treatment Unit.

Judicial Medical Officer Dr K Wasuthahewa ruled the death was due to electrocution.

Coroner M Ashrof Rumi ordered the Maradana police to produce a Ceylon Electrical Board electrical engineer in the coroner’s court tomorrow.
