Clean-up programmes to be held in schools across the country, to fight dengue

The Education Ministry said last week, that all schools across the country will be cleaned to remove mosquitoes.

Accordingly the ministry has sent letters to the heads schools to request the assistance of the parents of schoolchildren, to clean the schools’ premises before the first term of 2020.

The date for this clean-up programme will be fixed on a Sunday, to avoid disturbing the Ordinary Level exams that will begin on December 2.

The ministry has asked all National College of Education (NCoE) Teacher Training Colleges, zonal and divisional education offices to have a continuous programme to fumigate and clean up school premises.

The ministry is in discussion with the public health inspectors to find a suitable date for the clean-up programme.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry said that 77,329 suspected dengue cases were reported so far this year.
