Vouchers for school uniforms delayed till January
View(s):A senior Education Ministry official said that the issuing of vouchers to schoolchildren to purchase uniforms will be delayed until January 2020.
Students who were due to receive these vouchers by Friday, which was the last day of the school term, were informed this week that the vouchers will be ready in January.
“The vouchers were not printed in time and this is the reason for the delay,” the official said. He said that the children will have to manage with their old uniforms until the issue is sorted out. The printing of the vouchers this year was delayed due to the presidential election. Last year too, there was a delay because of the 52-day political crisis.
“We plan to complete the issuing of the vouchers, a week after the schools reopen,” the official said. The Ceylon Teachers Service Union said the delay was unfair, and they said that measures need be taken to issue the vouchers in late December.
