The fourth edition of the highly anticipated annual cricket big match between Lyceum International School Nugegoda and Lyceum International School Panadura will commence on February 22 at the P. Sara Oval. Hosted by Lyceum International School Nugegoda this year, both school teams will be competing for the Nikitha Grero Challenge trophy with a great deal of school spirit.

Starting with the big match tradition in 2016, Nikitha Grero, Director of Lyceum International Schools, had a vision of providing all Lyceum students the unforgettable experience of a big match. Grero, Chief Visionary Officer of Lyceum International Schools stated; “There is no doubt that cricket is Sri Lanka’s favourite game, and a great match always has a little bit of everything; from the excitement of scoring a six or the surprise of knocking out the wickets when least expected, cricket is undoubtedly an enthralling game like no other, which brings everyone together. It is no wonder that we celebrate our big match with a game of cricket every year to embrace the spirit of this wonderful game.”

Without a doubt the excitement of the encounter is building up for this year as well. Looking back at last year’s big match, the winners, Lyceum Nugegoda, gave an excellent performance by scoring 197 before being bowled out in 22.1 overs, while Lyceum Panadura were skittled out for 196 in 42.3 overs. It was a low-scoring thriller, which provided the much anticipated excitement to all Lyceum students.

For this year’s big match, Senura Hansaja will lead the Lyceum Nugegoda team with direction from Viraj Weerasekara, Head Coach and Master-in-charge Pathum Madhushanka. From the other end, Devin Rodrigo will lead the Lyceum Panadura team with guidance from Nadeep Jayasinghe, the Head Coach and Rumesh Wickramasinghe, the Master-in-charge. The hard training that both teams have gone through will be put to the test at the game when they will display their cricket skills with hopes to secure a victory.

The 2019 Nikitha Grero Challenge Trophy cricket encounter will be sponsored by Zhontong Sri Lanka, Mobitel, Next Click Studio, Lyceum Collection, SignTech Advertising Service, JobAds.lk  and NCG Express.
