President Maithripala Sirisena, who left for New York yesterday to attend the United Nations General Assembly session, is to make some top level appointments upon his return to Colombo.

He is to name Ravinatha Ariyasinha, a career diplomat, to be the new Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His last posting was as Sri Lanka’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva.

Mr Ariyasinha will succeed Prasad Kariyawasam who was Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Washington DC before moving over to Colombo as Foreign Secretary. Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya has already been recommended by President Sirisena to be the next Chief Justice. He will take over when the current incumbent Priyasath Dep retires next month.

To be appointed as Attorney General is Dappula de Livera. At present, he is the Additional Solicitor General and he assisted the Commission of Inquiry that probed the Central Bank bond scandal.
