Last Sunday morning, saw crowds throng the Galle Face Green in the early hours to witness the mammoth IRONMAN 70.3 Colombo. The internationally acclaimed triathlon kicked off with a 1.9km ocean swim followed by a 90km bike course through the Port of Colombo, and a final spectator-friendly 21.1km run.

The 800 participants – individuals and teams from across the globe crossed the finishing line to thunderous cheering as curious bystanders and loyal spectators watched the inspiring sporting event come to a close. Olivier Godart of Belgium emerged the winner in the men’s category, Davide Rossetti (Italy) was placed second and Francisco Gabriel (Spain) third. Ling Er Choo of Singapore emerged the winner in the women’s category while Ushakova Svetlana (Russia) was second and Brittany Campbell (Australia) third.

The day before saw the younger generation of motivated athletes take the challenge with IRONKIDS 2018 for the age group 3-14.

A weekend packed with energy, positivity and camaraderie, the two day races paved the way for likeminded local and foreign athletes, professionals and amateurs to come together for the well-organized event around Colombo’s scenic landmarks, bringing a community of unique individuals together for the love of sports.
