More Women Army Officers will be deployed overseas for United Nations (UN) Peace Keeping Missions like the first two Women Officers going to the Central African Republic (CAR), said the Army Chief.

Army Commander, Lt.Gen. Mahesh Senanayake made the statement when he met the first two Women Officers at Army headquarters, who had been selected as Military Observers (MO).

Two Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Women Officers, Maj. Dishanthi Mendis of the General Service Corps (SLAGSC) and Maj. Nishanthi Liyanage made history, as this is the first time the SLA was invited to send two Women Officers to serve in the CAR as MOs under the UN Peace Keeping programme.

At the meeting with the two Women Officers on Thursday (3) at Army headquarters, Lt.Gen. Senanayake reminded them to engage in their duties with commitment and dedication. He said the year-long assignment is a golden opportunity for them to display their professionalism as Women Officers.

Director Operations Brig. Aruna Muhandiram and Col.Commandant of the SLAWC, Brig. Dilrukshi Munasinghe were also associated with the Army Chief at the meeting.
