Hilton Hotel in Colombo will be moving to all tourist locations in Sri Lanka with a wider reach across the destination as it completes 30 years in operation in the country.

Hilton Worldwide would reach 100 years since its establishment and in Sri Lanka it would be marking 30 years, Hilton Colombo GM Manesh Fernando said on Tuesday at the launch of the celebrations to mark its 30th anniversary in 2019.

“We will be in almost every city in Sri Lanka and beyond,” he said adding that they hope to take the brand and hospitality to the whole of Sri Lanka.

From Jaffna to Dondra and from Colombo to Batticaloa, the Hilton brand would be spelt everywhere and to mark their anniversary celebration the hotel issued a stamp and the anniversary logo at a media briefing held in Colombo.

Mr. Fernando noted that they would be carrying out a series of “good deeds” throughout next year’s celebrations but would not be highlighting these as they do not wish to publicise these events that are held to help the less fortunate in the country.

The Hilton hospitality group signed up with local investor K.D.U. in June this year to establish a property in Weerawila in southern Sri Lanka under the DoubleTree brand called the “DoubleTree by Hilton Weerawila Rajawarana Resort” at a cost of US$27 million.

Earlier this year Hilton signed a deal with Melwa Hotels and Resorts to manage six new properties with an investment of US$100 million.

The properties would comprise three Hilton Hotels and Resorts and three DoubleTree by Hilton brands:

The 150 room Hilton Kandy Resort, 42 room Hilton Yala Resort and Spa, 200 room Hilton Kosgoda Resort, 96 rooms DoubleTree by Hilton Nuwara Eliya, 200 room DoubleTree by Hilton Colombo International Airport and 96 rooms at DoubleTree by Hilton Negombo. The first two properties to open will be Negombo and Yala in 2019.

Hilton has 13 brands under its umbrella catering to different segments of the traveller namely the Hilton Hotels and Resorts; Waldorf Astoria, Conrad Hotels and Resorts, Canopy by Hilton, Curio – A collection by Hilton, DoubleTree by Hilton, Embassy Suites by Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton by Hilton, tru by Hilton, Homewood Suites by Hilton, Home 2 Suites by Hilton and Hilton Grand Vacations.

Within the region, there are currently 42 hotels and 51 hotels are in the pipeline worldwide that would be opened within a three-to-five-year period. (SD)
