Kushan Peiris burnt the track at the 2nd Commando Challenge Supercross organised by Army Commandos Regiment in collaboration with Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) held at the Commando Training School motor racing track in Kuda Oya.

The 20-year-old Kushan whose pet event is the Ford/Laser Mazda event and who from recent past began to participate in the main event of Group SL – GT Cars up to 3500cc became the cynosure of all eyes as he dazzled his way to win the Race 1 and 2 events of this event to bag his maiden champion drivers title.

Kushan in winning the two events put the more experience drivers in the likes of Ashan Silva, Ushan Perera and Pasindu Peiris to name a few in the shade as he came out victorious in both the events with ease.

In fact Kushan won his first ever race of this event at the Cavalry Supercross held in Kurunegala two weeks ago and went a step further. Even though Ashan and Pasindu’s car met with a mishap with their cars being badly damaged it would have made little difference as Kushan was in top form.

Kushan apart from the two wins won another event which was the Group SL – N Standard Cars – Ford Laser/Mazda 1300cc event to win three races and no other drivers were able to win a double.

Ishan Dasanayake who stole the limelight in the motorcycle category as he took his second best rider’s title within the space of two weeks having earlier bagged it at the Cavalry Supercross in Kurunegala.

Ishan came out on top in the two events of the Group MX – over 175cc up to 250cc(4T) & over 100cc up to 125cc(2T) which ensured him the best riders title.

The other rider to win a double was

Evon Gurusinghe who won the best rider’s title last year was the other rider to win a double when he came out on top in the two events of Group M – STD/MOD motorcycles over 175cc up to 250cc(4T) and over 100cc up to 125cc(2T).

Imal Manchanayake one of the consistent riders had fluctuated fortunes as was able to win only one of the two Group SM – Super Motard including 250cc up to 750cc(4T) & including 125cc up to 500cc(2T) Mono/Twin Cylinder as Deshan Solanski pushed him to the second in the first event.
