To educate Sri Lankans about the power of music as a wellness modality, an event was held on Wednesday at the Dutch Burgher Union. The attendees included senior executives, researchers, musicians, healthcare professionals, and the general public. A US based NGO – Global Music & Wellness headed by Sri Lankan born Arlene de Silva partnered with HelpAge Sri Lanka to discuss stress reduction strategies as well as issues related to aged care.

The music making wellness programmes discussed were an invention by Barry Bittman, MD, an American neurologist, researcher and US healthcare innovator. The event also included a presentation by Dr. Markus Leser, head of the aged care sector of Switzerland. Dr Leser discussed the Swiss 2030 care model being implemented throughout the 26 Cantons of Switzerland.

“HelpAge Sri Lanka is delighted to be associated with this event,” said Tilak De Zoysa, Chairman of HelpAge Sri Lanka, and Global Ambassador for HelpAge International. The event concluded with a musical guest performance by popular singer/musician Sanka Dineth, who actively engaged the crowd in understanding the power of music.
