SLT Speed-up Cycle Tour will start on July 25 from Colombo

The SLT Speed-up 2017 Cycle Tour will commence on July 25 from Colombo. This is a five day event and will conclude at Embilipitiya on July 29.

This is the cycle tour with the highest paid cash awards in the island. The men’s overall winner will receive a cash award of Rs One Million. The women’s race (one day event) winner will receive Rs. 200.000.

Both winners – men and women – will receive cash awards of Rs 3.5 million. The total distance of the men’s race is over 750 km. The women’s race will run a distance of 70 km. Entries for the race closed on Thursday where the organisers were expecting over 150 riders.

The first leg will start from Puttalam on July 25. There are two stages on July 26. The first stage will be from Karuwalagaswewa to Vavuniya. After a rest the second stage will be from Vavuniya to Trincomalee. On July 27 the race will be from Trincomalee to Dambulla. On July 28, the race will be from Dambulla to Badulla. The final leg will be from Badulla to Embilipitiya on July 29.

The women’s race on July 29 will be from Ratnapura to Embilipitiya.

2016 – Overall Winner – Dharshana Prasad of Sri Lanka Navy ‘A’ team. He clocked 18 hours, 29 minutes, 53 seconds to complete the men’s race.

The women’s race winner was N.S.P. Sulochana of Sri Lanka Air Force. Time 2 Hours, 31mts. 3secs.
