Colombo Masters overcome SSC Vets by 5 wickets
A superb all-round performance by Nalliah Devarajan (127 and 2 for 58) highlighted Colombo Masters Cricket Association’s (CMCA) five-wickets victory over SSC Veterans (Vets), in their annual ‘Aloy Perera’ Trophy 30-Over Cricket encounter played at the SSC Grounds recently.
Put into bat, SSC Vets scored 261 runs for the loss of only two wickets, aided by an unbeaten century by Shane Fernando, in 70 balls, who was well supported by G.D.V. Perera who scored a quickfire 56 in 40 balls, with 8 fours and 3 sixes. Devarajan was the most successful CMCA bowler, capturing both wickets to fall.
Chasing a huge total of 261, CMCA started slowly with opener Devarajan finding touch with fine stroke-play all round the wicket, to score a match-winning 127 runs. D. Tissarachchi (41), L. Perera (28) and Dharsha Abeywardene (24 n.o.) were the other batsmen who contributed to this hard fought CMCA victory. Nimal Boteju with 2 for 28 bowled best for SSC Vets.
Centurion Nalliah Devarajan was adjudged Man of the Match. -LR
