Defending champions in the girls and boys categories Mahamaya Girl’s School Kandy and St Joseph’s Colombo continued to maintain the lead at the end of the third day’s proceedings of the 44th Milo All Island Schools Aquatic Championship which ended at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium swimming pool yesterday.

Mahamaya having ended day two on 241 points saw them accumulating a further 148 points to end day three on 389 but they are facing stiff opposition from Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo who are just close behind on 371.50 points and they are followed by Sirimavo Bandaranayake BV (245), Lyceum International School Wattala (239), Musaeus (181) and Ladies College (158).

In the boy’s category St Joseph’s are way ahead as they added 121 points on day three to the previous day’s 295 to end with 416 points while Royal Colombo are 131 points behind on 285 followed by Ananda (259), Lyceum International School Wattala (164), Nalanda (146) and St Sebastian’s Moratuwa (144).

Meanwhile the third day’s proceedings also saw nine new records being established bringing the tally of records shattered to 28 since it began on Thursday.

Of the 28 records, four swimmers, three in the boy’s category and one in the girls had the honour of establishing three records each namely B. Dilanka Shehan (Nalanda), A. Bihandu Hansana (Sri Devananda MV Ambalangoda), Akalanka Peiris (St Peter’s) in the boys and Ramidu Samarakoon of Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo in the girls category.

Apart from these four two other swimmers Shevindha de Silva of St  Joseph’s and Monali Weerakkody of Gateway International Colombo established two new records.

Vinoli Kaluarachchi (Sirimavo Bandaranayake BV), Ushan Gunaratne (Lyceum Ratnapura), Pinsara Sandahan (Sussex College), Banuka Jayatileke (Royal Colombo), K.U.O. Onanga (Sumedha College Gampaha), Sancev Senaratne (Ananda), Kaveendra Nugawela (Wycherley Intl School), Manula Cooray (Ananda), Amjad Hasan (Lyceum Wattala), Pramesh Cooray (St Peter’s) and Shehanthi Gunawardena (Visakha Vidyalaya) were the other swimmers to establish new records.

The curtains of the 44th Milo All Island Schools Aquatic Championship conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Association and sponsored by Nestle Lanka under the brand Milo for the 24th successive year will come down today.

The chief guest at the closing ceremony will be Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Minister of Education with Sunil Hettiarachchi, Secretary Minister of Education and Norman Kannangara, Vice President Beverages, Nestle Lanka PLC gracing the occasion as guest of honours.
