Former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran was warned by Chairman of the Commission, Justice K.T. Chitrasiri against using his mobile phone inside the premises of the Presidential Commission.

Earlier, the commission allowed Mr. Mahendran to observe its proceedings. This week, while Additional Director of the Central Bank’s Information Technology Department, Wasantha Alwis was giving evidence, Justice Chitarasiri told Attorney-at-Law Chanaka De Silva, appearing on behalf of the former Governor, that he had observed Mr. Mahendran using his mobile phone inside the premises. He instructed the counsel to advise Mr. Mahendran to refrain from doing so as that was not why he was granted permission to observe the commission’s proceedings.

Mr. De Silva promptly told the commission that he would take steps to advise his client regarding the matter.
