Big Bird Holiday Delights

Big Bird Holiday Delight prides itself on being just that. What began as Jovanka Jayaweera’s passion for cooking transformed into a small business that keeps the banking professional busy with orders for homemade holiday comfort food.

A service that makes eggnog past the Christmas season, this Avurudu, Big Bird Holiday Delights is ready with their heady homemade mixes of favourites like iced coffee, coffee liqueur and hot chocolate mix. Not a conventional staple for the avurudu table, nevertheless, the menu is ideal for a month of celebrations and visiting relatives.

Foodie Colombo

Nilomi Kurukulasooriya. Is the face behind “Foodie Colombo” one of Colombo’s favourite food service distributors. Foodie Colombo has seen its fair share of Sinhala and Tamil New Year gift boxes- be it family sized, or for an office function.

These days, Nilomi and the team are working at a feverish pace, with orders for the traditional avurudu fare .

Revamping her idea for the avududhu table, Nilomi’s soft, iced betel leaf cake is ideal for those with a sweet tooth, adding an exotic element to the kavili table.

The Sizzle

If you’re stuck, looking for a fine dining restaurant or one that delivers during this season, ‘The Sizzle’ is your go to place. They are one of the first restaurants in the country, to venture into a unique way of serving an entire meal on an iron platter.

‘The Sizzle’ offers a colourful menu featuring authentic halal dishes, which are named after famous boxers and wrestlers.
Their main specialty is just like their name, the food is served sizzling. These include an array of Sizzling mains, desserts and beverages.  The food prices range from Rs.500 to Rs.2000, but you get your value for money.

The restaurant also offers 15 and 20 percent discounts on selected debit and credit cards, off their weekday lunch menu.

The Cakery

The Cakery produces high quality cakes at an affordable price. Their menu comprises, Yohan Galapitage’s (the owner)  favourite recipes, collected from friends, family, his travels and his mum, who is a trained baker and confectioner. All these recipes have been tweaked over time.

Yohan tells us, The Cakery is currently offering a buy one get one free offer on their breakfast menu, this season. This offer is valid for all those, who come in before 11.00 am.

The Cakery will be operating on April 13 (7 am- 10pm) and 14 (from 9 am to 6 pm). They offer a delivery service on their hot line 011 2 501344. However, this service would not be available on April 14.

Their newly organised all day breakfast menu includes various items such as home-made muesli & yoghurt with fresh strawberries (Priced at Rs.350), Cinnamon French toast ( Rs. 300 for two slices),Sweet mini pancakes (with syrup) Banana (Rs. 340) Blueberry  (Rs. 400). Breakfast bagels – Smoked salmon, poached egg and hollandaise sauce (Rs 550), Fried Egg and pol sambol (Rs 450) etc.

Aside from their regular items, they will also be offering two new Avurudu inspired dishes, for the New Year. This includes a chocolate Kokis, and their take on a chocolate Aluhan.

The Sandwich Factory

Celebrating their tenth anniversary, this month, ‘The Sandwich Factory’ will be offering a 50 percent discount on selected items off their menu.
