Three candidates will be contesting for the President’s post at the Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Badminton Association scheduled to be held on March 24. Nominations for the event close on March 10.

Former President Roshan Gunewardena, former Interim Committee President Prof. Ranjith de Silva and former national player Nishantha Jayasinghe are the others who will be vying for the post.

The current president Suraj Dandeniya has said that he will not be competing for the president’s post.

The Badminton Association has scheduled to hold the AGM on March 24 but according to the Sports Law the accounts for the previous year (2016) should have been cleared. But to-date no accounts have been cleared so far.

Under these circumstances will the Sports Ministry give its approval for the AGM?

Former Sri Lanka Badminton President Roshan Gunewardena (2010-2011) has decided to contest the President’s post at the Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Badminton Association.

This is after a two year period that the Annual General Meetings of sports associations are being held this year. The Sports Ministry has informed that all AGMs should be held before May 31 but the Badminton Association has decided to bring it forward to March 24.

Roshan Gunewardena confirmed that he will be coming forward to contest the post.
