A collective of civil society activists on Friday held a protest march calling on the Government to expedite investigations on corruption and ensure that measures are taken to prevent incidents of corruption and bribery.

Activist carrying placards marched from Horton Place to the Independence square where they read out a pledge against bribery and corruption. Several Government Ministers including Patali Champika Ranawaka, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Arjuna Ranatunge and Sarath Fonseka were among the politicians who took part in the march and meeting.

Participants demanded immediate action against alleged corrupt elements of the former regime as well as those in the present Government. Executive Director of the Campaign for Free and Fair Elections Keerthi Tennakoon said they hope to continue with the campaign as they are not satisfied with certain actions of the present Government as well.

“Though we campaigned for a country without corruption we are not satisfied about the things that are happening,” he said.
