Driver who hit railing to avoid container dies of injuries

A driver who veered off the road trying to give way to a container on the Southern Expressway was killed when her vehicle crashed into the iron railing in the Dodangoda area early this week, a coroner’s inquiry was told. The victim was identified as Geethani Nilanthika, 36 from Hokandara.
The vehicle was heading towards Colombo when the accident took place around midnight.

The victim’s husband Dhrshana Ranasinghe who was also in the vehicle with his two children told the inquiry that his wife fearing that their vehicle would be hit by a container veered towards the railing and crashed into it. The double cab in which they were travelling toppled over and Ms Nilanthika sustained injuries while the others escaped unhurt.

She was rushed to the Dodangoda hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
