A state ceremony to mark the festival of Deepawali was held at Temple Trees on Friday. President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Tamil National Alliance leader R. Sampanthan, Minister D.M. Swaminathan and others wearing traditional shawls are seen observing Deepawali rituals. Opposition Leader Sampanthan in his speech thanked the National Unity Government for taking the country from darkness to light – the theme of Deepawali.
