SSP Gunasekara promoted to DIG

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mahendra Gunasekara has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) with effect from September 4.

He joined the Sri Lanka Police in 1979 as a Sub-Inspector.

Prior to being promoted, DIG Gunasekara had last served as SSP Nugegoda.

Throughout his career in the police, DIG Gunasekara has held various positions in a supervisory and managerial capacity. He had served in the National Intelligence Burea and as OIC, Dompe Gampaha Division, HQI/ Mount Lavinia, Director, Personnel of the Civil Security Department and Director,  Expressway Traffic Division.

DIG Gunasekara had also served in operational areas during the war as ASP  (Crimes and Operations) in Vavuniya.

He has completed numerous police training courses both in Sri Lanka and overseas, including in the US, East Timor (with the United Nations) and Pakistan.

He is an old boy of Bandaranaike Maha Vidyalaya, Gampaha.
