Divineguma Dept entrance exam beset with problems

A proposed exam to be held today to select Development Assistants – Grade III for the Divineguma Dept has run into problems, with complications in the admission process.

The exam was to be conducted in various parts of the country, but some of the applicants had yet to receive their admission cards, while some had been assigned distant exam centres,  and others were uncertain whether they had been selected to the sit the exam.

Some of the applicants claim their applications had been rejected without valid grounds.

One of the applicants said the closing date was in February this year, but she had been informed of the rejection of her application only on September 2, though the rejection letter was dated July 13.

She said the reason given for the rejection of the application was that the relevant educational certificates were not attached. However, she claimed the certificates had been attached.

Many applicants had personally called over at the External Examination branch of the Sri Jayawardenapura University which is conducting the exam on behalf of the Divineguma Dept, seeking clarification about the admission cards.

Social Empowerment and Welfare Minister S.B. Dissanayaka, under whom the Divineguma Dept functions, said, he too had received many complaints.

“A large number of candidates had not attached their certificates as requested. It may be because they had purchased the application forms from bookshops which may have not properly downloaded the instructions and printed them,” he said.

He said fresh instructions would be issued to conduct another exam, if the number of rejected applications were high.

However, the applicants claim that conducting a second exam for the same post would be unfair and a waste of money.
