Colombo FC gained a 3-0 win over Renown SC in the opening match of the City League President’s Cup Football Tournament at the City League Sports Complex. The tournament is being conducted by the City Football League. Out of the 22 teams in the City League the top four teams have been selected to compete in this tournament. They are: Colombo FC, Renown SC, Saunders SC and Java Lane SC.

Last year Colombo FC were champions in the Dialog Champions League and the Cargill’s FA Cup. Renown SC were runners-up the Champions League. Matches in the tournament will be held on weekends and will be conducted on a round-robin basis and the two top teams will clash in the finals on April 30.  The winning team will receive a cash award of Rs. 150,000 and the runners-up will be in line for Rs. 1,00000.

Colombo FC led 1-0 in the first half against Renown SC with Nigerian player Gimi scoring in the 25th minute. The second and third goals were netted in the final minutes by Sarwan Honar in the 90th minute and the last goal by M. Raumy in the 91st minute.  The second match of the tournament will be worked off today between Saunders FC vs Java Lane SC at 3.30 pm.
