Economics students of South Asia meet in Colombo

The 12th South Asia Economics Students’ Meet (SAESM) is being held on April 3-4 at the BMICH will create the next generation of economists who have the ability to make South Asia into a developed region, co-founder of SAESM, Prof. Sirimal Abeyratne said. The Department of Economics, University of Colombo, is hosting the event for the third time with the partnership of the Word Bank and other corporate sponsors. The Colombo SAESM this year is conducted under the themes of, “South Asia within an Asian and Global context”, with the aim of sharing research findings and knowledge for the benefit of the region, he said.

Prof. Abeyratne, also the chief organizer of Colombo SAESM 2016, said SAESM assists economics undergraduates in South Asia in multiple ways to develop themselves and pave the way to take the local talent into the international level. Participants at the event are students from the University of Colombo and other local universities, Dhaka University of Bangladesh, Delhi University of India, Lahore University of Management Sciences of Pakistan, and Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu.
