With a well thought out blend of predominantly 80s and 90s music mixed with the best current hits, RED 107.8, Sri Lanka’s newest English radio channel, says it will churn out many songs and sounds familiar to local audiences. In a media release, the station said RED 107.8 will combine an uber-modern style along with old school radio fundamentals to produce a sound that will be a lifestyle trendsetter. RED 107.8 will revolutionise the industry with a strong online presence and a programme line up innovative shows that is sure to make one sit up and listen.

“Weekday prime time kicks off with TRENDING RED every morning from 6-10am with the evergreen Captain Sri and his morning cohorts Jude & Big Ralph. Super prizes, infotainment and lots of laughs await you on this 4-hour rollercoaster. The midday belt is hosted by the Lankan equivalent of a Christian Grey, Suresh DE on the RED BOARDROOM from 10am-2pm. This corporate, high paced show deals in requests and office competitions to breeze you through the workday. Late afternoons are all about the Lankan lifestyle as Deeno spins you a fun and girly 3 hours from 2-5pm filled with chat on everything from food to travel to anything that goes on #NOFILTER,” the release said.

It said Saturdays start off with the BREAKFAST CLUB taking a cue from the 80s and is followed up by the RED20 hosted by the infamous NASH who makes a once-a-week appearance on Sri Lanka’s first ever locally canned chart show. “Saturday afternoons are all about your requests as ANYTHING GOES and the evening is brought to life by DJ RJ on KICKIN’ IT OLD SCHOOL with the best of the 80s and 90s RnB, Hip hop and Urban beats. Sundays are chilled out and laid back with a full day of easy listening – its CHILLOUT SUNDAY,” it said.

The promoters of the round-the-clock station said that they decided on the new channel “we felt that Sri Lanka is in need of a radio channel that caters to Lankan tastes as opposed to what’s in the market at the moment”.  They said RED is “looking to be the radio of the future while still respecting the basic fundamentals. We will be a pioneer in the field of radio when it comes to radical trends and we will be almost geeky in our tech savvy approach”.
