The Dept of Registration of Persons has opened a special counter for school candidates sitting the GCE Advanced Level who require National Identity Cards (NIC), a senior official said.

Commissioner General of the Dept, R.M.S. Sarath Kumara told the Education Times that the special counters at the Dept will be kept open till end of next week.

He said that candidates who need NICs could send a parent/caretaker with the required documents for their NIC. “We have requested that all documents be in order with the necessary signatures and grama sevaka certification,” he said.

He said that candidates sitting the GCE O/L exam too should apply for their identity cards in advance. Mr Sarath Kumara said the Dept will be busy with NICs for those voting at the Parliamentary elections as well as possible Local Govt. elections to be held later this year. (DW)
