SLEAS Union decries written exams for Principal’s post

The Sri Lanka Education Administrative Services (SLEAS) Union last week said it was against Government plans for written examinations for eligible Class I, II & III SLEAS officers and principals to fill principal vacancies in National schools.
Eastern Province SLEAS Convenor, M.L.M. Mukthar said this is the first time such an exam is being held, while in the past, eligibility was judged solely on seniority and service.

He further said these officers have been in service for over 30 years, and now, to sit an exam to qualify for the post will be traumatic for them. “To sit an exam at 55 years would affect them psychologically,” he said.

The SLEAS Union is calling on the Government to cancel the written exam and return to the former method of selection. The exams are scheduled to be held on July 12.
