The Melomanic Sessions have been around long enough now, for most musically-inclined young people to know what you’re talking about when you’re talking about “melo”: good music, pretty lights, happy company and some delectable eats. When they started off at the Warehouse project, it was obvious the event was breaking some new and important ground, creating a positive atmosphere for showcasing local acoustic music. But in the last three and a half years, team melo has helped build a community of musicians and music-lovers that not just listen to and play music, but also nurture the local music scene.

For their last session on March 7, team melo pushed the bar a notch higher, by having every artist perform at least one original. Suffice to say, a number of the artists who were a part of the first sessions, some playing in public for the first time, were up there beneath the lights on the Nuga tree two months ago, delivering a distinctly stepped-up level of their craft. The melo mascot Moocah’s obviously got some magic, and absolutely everybody needs to experience it.

Melomanic Sessions will take place at Rustic Homeware, Rajagiriya on May 23 at 6.30pm.
