Weekly film screening at Alliance Française de Colombo this month shows two French films centring Paris.

1991 film ‘J’embrasse pas’ directed by André Téchiné revolves around a young man who leaves his native town in southern France to discover Paris. Being too inexperienced and too naïve, he drops into the reality of Paris 1991. He soon gives up his dream of becoming an actor and prostitutes himself. Throughout all these modern relationships, he keeps his innocence but becomes very emotionally blocked.

It will be screened at 3 pm on May 19 and at 6.30 pm on May 20 at the auditorium of AF Colombo. French crime drama ‘Feux Rouges’ directed by Cédric Khan will be screened at 3pm on May 28 and at 6.30 pm on May 29.

Paris, the summer, a weekend of grand departure. Antoine is delighted to be reunited with his wife Helene to leave for south of France to pick up their children from a summer vacation camp. She was late, and while waiting for her, Antoine started drinking. While in the car, exasperated by the heat and traffic congestion, Antoine decides to quit the highway for an ordinary route and stops at a wayside bar for a drink. Under the influence of the alcohol, he begins to drive the vehicle in a dangerous manner.
