Prelate’s funeral today: National mourning
View(s):The funeral of the Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter, the Ven. Udugama Sri Buddarakkhita Thera, takes place today in Kandy with state honours.
Today has been declared a day of national mourning, in view of the funeral. All liquor shops and meat stalls will be closed islandwide.
The liquor shops would be closed tomorrow and Tuesday also in view of the National New Year.
The Excise Department will suspend the liquor licence of owners who violate the law, Internal Affairs Ministers Joseph Michael Perera said.
