Bathing for the old year will be on Monday, April 13. Naanu (herbal mixture) made of woodapple-leaf juice must be applied on the head before the bath.

The Sinhala New Year dawns at 1.47 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14.
Nonagatha (inauspicious time)- Inauspicious time is from 7.23 am till 8.11 pm on Tuesday, April 14 . Finish any partaking of food before 7.23 am, and engage only in religious activities during this period.

In the latter part of the Nonagatha (from 1.47 pm till 8.11 pm) observe rituals as directed below.
Kindling the hearth- At 2.05 pm on Tuesday 14 April, attired and adorned in Red, and facing the East, kindle the hearth and prepare milk rice out of red rice, mixed with sugar cane jaggery and dee kiri and a sweet dish made of (rice corn) ‘vilanda’.

Auspicious time for the first business transaction and for partaking of meals- At 2.42 pm on Tuesday, April 14, facing the East, attired in Red.
Auspicious time to apply oil on the head- At 9.06 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, facing the South. ‘Kohomba’ leaves must be placed above the head and ‘Kolon’ leaves under the feet.

Leaving for Work- Auspicious time to Leave for Work is at 6.02 am, on Wednesday, April 22. Leave after partaking of milk rice mixed with jaggery, sesame and sweetmeats, dressed in light green, facing East.
