Packed programme for Premier Modi

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have a packed programme during his two-day official visit beginning Friday, the first state visit to Sri Lanka by an Indian leader in 28 years. During his stay, Mr. Modi will hold talks with President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
He will also address a special sitting of Parliament at 3.15 p.m. on Friday.

The Indian Prime Minister will also lay a wreath at the IPKF Memorial in Battaramulla and visit the Mahabodhi Society.  He will also visit the Sri Maha Bodhiya in Anuradhapura and then proceed to Talaimannar and Jaffna. Mr. Modi will unveil a plaque at the site of the proposed India- funded Jaffna Cultural Centre and also hand over ownerships to the beneficiaries of houses built with Indian assistance.

In Talaimannar, he will flag off the first train signifying resumption of the Talaimannar-Medawachchiya sector of the train service to Colombo, the rehabilitation work on which was carried out with Indian credit assistance. President Sirisena will host a state banquet in honour of Mr. Modi while Mr. Wickremesinghe will host him to a luncheon.
