Sri Lanka’s hospitality and partner industries have converged at the BMICH for the 9th edition of the Hotel Show, the largest trade exhibition of its kind in South Asia, which ends today.

“This year the Hotel Show Committee had set a more interactive tone to the event with the introduction of a barista and pizza making competition,” the organisers said.

The exhibition has a history of drawing crowds to the BMICH. Over 280 exhibitors were showcasing portfolios covering aspects of the industry including in room technology, laundry, air conditioning, hygiene and catering, architecture, gardening, landscaping, outdoor furniture, swimming pools, waste management, software systems and modern security systems and a wide array of hotel supplies, the organisers said.

“The overriding purpose of the show is to cultivate healthy relationships between hospitality providers, suppliers and the community,” explained Niroshan de Silva, Co-chairman of Hotel Show Committee. “The only way to achieve our growth potential is through harmonious relationships. Hotel Show is a platform for counterparts to speak to each other. It is a one stop shop for anyone in the hospitality field or potential entrants.

Chairman of the Hotel Show Committee, Trevine Gomez related the committee’s thoughts behind the Sri Lanka Barista Championship. “We recognised the growing coffee culture in Sri Lanka and understood the value we could add by connecting the players as well as paving the way for innovation. The competition will recognise contestants’ skills in preparing coffee and tea specifically looking at art, taste, foam and froth of milk.”

Hotel Show was organised by the Ceylon Hotel School Graduates Association (CHSGA) together with Lanka Exhibition and Conference Services, a Presidential Award Winning exhibition organiser.
