American animated musical fantasy film ‘the Little Mermaid’ will be screened as the weekly children’s film screening at 3.30 pm on April 26 at American Center auditorium, Colombo.

A story of a mermaid princess who makes a Faustian bargain with an unscrupulous sea-witch in order to meet a human prince on land, the film is produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Based on the Danish fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, ‘the Little Mermaid’ is written, directed, and produced by Ron Clements and John Musker, with music by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman (who also served as a co-producer), the film features the voices of Jodi Benson, Christopher Daniel Barnes, Pat Carroll, Samuel E. Wright, Jason Marin, Kenneth Mars, Buddy Hackett, and Rene Auberjonois. It tells the story of a beautiful mermaid who dreams of becoming human.

Ariel, youngest daughter of King Triton, is dissatisfied with life in the sea. She longs to be with the humans above the surface, and is often caught in arguments with her father over those “barbaric fish-eaters”. She goes to meet Ursula, the Sea Witch, to strike a deal, but Ursula has bigger plans for this mermaid and her father.
