Effort to bring William Shakespeare’s tragic play ‘Hamlet’ to Sri Lankan cinema has been halted due non-availability of Ophelia, the main female role.
Experienced playwright and pioneer in introducing Shakespearean theatre to Sri Lankan audience, Gamini de Silva who is ready with everything except a suitable young girl to play ‘Ophelia’ has been forced to postponed the start of the shooting.

The film is produced by the Shakespeare Centre Sri Lanka an organisation promoting Shakespearean production in Sri Lanka for more than 20 years. The rest of the cast including veteran stars like Jeewan Kumaratunga, Veena Jayakody, Rex Kodippili and Cletus Mendis are ready yet the film project is delayed until a suitable actress is found to play one of the key roles in the story.

Gamini de Silva said a girl with a height of 5.7 feet with good acting talent can join the film project by contacting the Shakespeare Centre or calling the director on 0778516123.
